RECENT PROJECT

The Bosam Group consists of 164 women working on peace building in Rutshuru in Eastern DRC. This group has been promoting peace since the beginning of the armed conflicts. With financial support from FFC, the Bosam Group has empowered 20 women leaders and traditional leaders from all conflicting ethnic groups on conflict transformation, mediation, and peaceful coexistence. Following sensitization by these women, 17 youths left armed groups including child soldiers. Three AK47 guns were recovered and handed over to the authorities. Because of this notable success, women from Rutshuru and women from the Bosam Group now function as consultants for the authorities whenever there are peace-related concerns. FFC recommended the Bosam Group to provide extensive training on best practices with other women’s groups from the Great Lakes Region including Rwanda, Senegal, Burundi, Uganda, as well as women from other provinces in the DRC.
