In response to the worsening humanitarian crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Fonds pour les Femmes Congolaises , with funding from the First Response Fund and support from the Government of Canada, is implementing an emergency humanitarian assistance project aimed at responding to the needs of populations most affected by conflict and displacement.
Deployed across the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu, this intervention relies on more than 25 local partner organizations receiving grants, working closely with communities to deliver a rapid, coordinated, and context-appropriate response.
Through these partner organizations, thousands of internally displaced households and highly vulnerable host families are receiving distributions of essential food items, including rice, beans, oil, and salt. This assistance helps meet families’ immediate food needs while also contributing to preserving their dignity in a context marked by insecurity and forced displacement.
Beyond food assistance, this initiative highlights the crucial role played by local organizations led by women and deeply rooted in their communities.
Their close connection with communities, understanding of local needs, and ability to respond quickly are essential assets in ensuring an effective, inclusive humanitarian response that respects local realities.
The project also contributes to strengthening the capacities of partner organizations, enabling them to continue supporting the most vulnerable communities while promoting stronger coordination among local humanitarian actors.
Through this intervention, the Fonds pour les Femmes Congolaises reaffirms its commitment to supporting initiatives led by local organizations and promoting a humanitarian response that places communities at the heart of action. Thanks to the support of the First Response Fund and the Government of Canada, thousands of families are regaining access to essential food assistance and finding hope in the face of the daily challenges caused by the humanitarian crisis in eastern DRC.
